Emotion Recognition on E-Learning Community to Improve the Learning Outcomes Using Machine Learning Concepts: A Pilot Study

This was the paper published from the findings of mini-project facilitated as part of the curriculum in the senior year of SASTRA Deemed University. The project was done in collaboration with the peers in the department mentored by a faculty from the Department of Computer Science in the School of Computing.

This project and hence the publication was an entry into the world of machine learning and its application in e-learning. The idea of the project was to perform emotion recognition on the facial images, get a ‘visual’ feedback from the learners and tailor the content for the individuals. Several models were trained using Python as the framework, OpenCV to read images and scikit-learn to train machine learning models.

Apart from the curricular requirement, the results were presented in the SSIC-2019 conference held in Manipal University which was later published by Springer publications.
